Brockway Memory Assessment Battery©

Purpose. The Brockway Memory Assessment Batteryİ is a computerized series of 14 memory tests which is portable, runs on any laptop, and provides an accurate, reliable method for analyzing many types of memory performance.

It tests both recognition and recall functions for lexical, visual, object naming, facial, and numerical materials in a randomized manner.

Randomization processes make it possible to perform multiple testing of the same person over time with minimal learning effect. It can be used repeatedly with reliable results.

The Battery was developed over a nine year period of time.

It is easy to use. It is quick. It is reliable.

It comes with a manual and scoring sheets with instructions.

These tests have been normed on several different populations providing comparisons for different types of dysfunction. Buying the test, one can assess an individual's performance quickly and it can then be compared to norms and assessed for functional level. This test provides a useful assessment that augments other sources of diagnosis including clinical observation, EEG, ECoG, MRI, SPECT, PET, and MEG.

NEW NEW NEW !!!

As of March 20, 2002, the BMAB will run on Windows based platforms (95,98, NT, 2000, XP) as well as any new Macintosh (iBook, Titanium Powerbook)

General Orienting Instructions for giving the BMAB.

  • Family members and friends may be present as long as they do not aid or distract the patient (suggest they sit out of sight behind the person being tested).
  • Before beginning, advise the patient or testee, that she or he will be unable to answer everything correctly and that this is entirely normal.
  • The entire test will take about an hour (50-70 minutes) in most cases.
  • On the score sheet, record what type of test is being given after "Procedure:", i.e., "initial assessment", "one week post-shunt", "2 year post-ATL."
  • To give the patient a sample sound level check before the test begins, you can click on the "Memory is fun!" button on the navigator window (only shows on the opening screen), and it will speak to the patient at the level of the sounds within the test. If the patient needs more volume, use sound button in the computer's "settings folder" to adjust the volume up or down.
  • Always give the entire test in the prescribed order with all the trials and do not repeat any tests or trials.
  • No cueing of the patient can be permitted, as it will nullify the results, but please make sure the patient understands the directions before proceeding to each of the next tests.
  • Patient responses must be recorded immediately and accurately for correct scoring. Logs will help following the adminstration to validate many of the tests that are speeded and are hard to write down.
