Test Thirteen: Visual Retention (Object Recall)
This test consists of 17 trials. The computer presents a shape for 10 seconds. The patient should pay careful attention because after a very short delay, four shapes similar to the original appear on the screen. The patient must either point to the correct shape while you type an "I" for the upper position, "L" for the right hand position, "M" for the lower position, or "J" for the left hand position, or the patient may type himself or herself. It is helpful to place small labels on the required four keys.
Test Fourteen: Lexical Categories
This test consists of 20 trials. Use Set 1 for the initial assessment and then continuously rotate through all three sets for subsequent testing. Circle the number of the set you used on the score sheet. A group of proper nouns appears serially at 1 per second. As soon as the patient deduces the category, she or he should click the mouse button to stop the examples from appearing. The category becomes easier when the patient sees more nouns, but the second part of the test (giving another example) becomes more difficult. The patient then names the category to which all the brand names belong and must give another brand name that fits into the same category (one that has not yet appeared on the screen). Encourage the patient to give the most specific category they can produce for the nouns. Once this test begins, it does not stop until all 20 trials finish. Therefore, make sure the patient understands what to do before beginning. Write down both the category and the exemplar that the patient gives.
